PRIME TIMERS LEARN ABOUT
NEW GLBT HEALTH SERVICES
At Chicago Prime
Timers Open Social, Sunday, July 13, Iris Rosado, Elder Services
Outreach Coordinator, will tell CPT members about the Howard
Brown Health Center’s new Elder Services Community Initiative.
It is estimated
that there are 40,000 GLBT seniors in Chicago. These seniors
face unique challenges that set them apart from the general
aging population. To address these challenges, Howard Brown is
partnering with Rush University Medical Center, Council for
Jewish Elderly, Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, and
Heartland Alliance to design and develop a comprehensive health
program for GLBT older adults.
The monthly Open
Social at Ann Sather Restaurant, 909 W. Belmont, begins at 6
p.m. with a social hour, followed by a buffet dinner and
presentation by Iris Rosado at 7 p.m. Dinners are $20 for
members and $25 for non-members. No reservations are required.
Those wishing to enjoy alcoholic beverages are asked to bring
their own bottle. Set-ups are $1.
Lately there has
been significant growth, emphasis and interest in GLBT senior
programs and activities. In addition to the new program at
Howard Brown, the relatively new SAGE (Services and Advocacy for
GLBT Elders) at the Center of Halsted is growing. For many
years, Prime Timers was the only Chicago organization that was
mature adult oriented – and from a social and men’s viewpoint.
CPT is growing too; it now has 217 members.
Chicago Prime
Timers is a social club for mature gay and bisexual men, and
their admirers (age 21 and over), who come together in a wide
range of activities. It is one of the oldest clubs of its type
in the nation.
