About Us

Edmonton Prime Timers is a group of older gay and bisexual men and their younger (over 21) friends who enjoy the company of mature men.

The purpose of Prime Timers is to provide opportunities for men to socialize and join together in various activities.

pt1We gather monthly for a social period, a presentation from a guest speaker, and an optional dinner at a restaurant. Occasionally we have a pot luck dinner in lieu of a speaker and the restaurant dinner.

Periodically through the month, there are social events such as theatre performances, concerts, video nights at members' homes, movie nights at local cinemas, Sunday brunches and dining out at restaurants.

In July, we have a barbeque, usually at the residence of a member; in August, we have a picnic at the cottage of a member. Both are potluck.

Several times during the last few years we've had a campout in rural Alberta sometimes in conjunction with Calgary Prime Timers. It's proved to be a popular event. Not everyone wants to subject themselves to the rigours of sleeping under canvas. Those with motor homes bring them along, others find a local motel. It's a fun weekend.

Monthly Meetings

Meetings are held on the second Sunday of every month except July and August and December at 2:30 pm at the Unitarian Church of Edmonton, 10804 - 119th Street. They feature a social period, a short business meeting, a guest speaker or discussion panel, and are followed by an optional supper at a restaurant.

From the south, go across 107th Ave on 116th Street and take the first left turn. Continue on until it curves to the right; the church is on your left.

From the north, go south from 119th Street and as the road curves to the left, the church is on your right. Park in the rear.

Edmonton Prime Timers is a chapter of Prime Timers Worldwide which is an international social organization for older gay and bisexual men and their younger friends over 21. All applications are subject to approval by the Board.

We are men who choose to have our social lives enriched by the diverse activities in which our members engage. No single definition can describebbq Prime Timers, as they come from all walks of life. Prime Timers involve themselves in their community with volunteerism, politics, gay issues, arts, entertainment, and every other facet of healthy living. We are businessmen, truck drivers, professionals, tradesmen, entrepreneurs, and office workers. Some Prime Timers work but others are retired. Some are always on the go while others enjoy the quiet company of friends at home. But one thing is true of all Prime Timers: they enjoy the opportunities and friendships that develop with other Prime Timers both locally and throughout the world.

Other Activities

In July we have a barbeque at a member's home and in August a picnic at a member's cottage. In December there is a catered Christmas party in a local hall.

Throughout the year members also organize a wide range of special activities including theatre nights, video nights and/or potlucks at home, pub nights, Sunday brunches, dining out, day trips, and camping trips. Groups are started to meet other needs.

Prospective members are welcome to attend up to two meetings and/or activities as guests before being asked to join.

A monthly newsletter, which may be viewed at the gallery page, is circulated to members and other Prime Timers groups. It gives details of the Edmonton Chapter's current and future programs, items of local interest, and information about other chapters' activities. It's available to members only and, along with a photo gallery, is password protected.

Expenses are kept to a minimum and, except for some special activities, are covered by an annual membership fee of $35.00 for the period April 1st to March 31st. The fees are pro-rated semi-annually for new members.

If you wish to become a member you may do so by filling out this application form. You mail it, along with your cheque, to the address on the form or bring it to a meeting.
