Who Are We? The purpose of Prime Timers is to provide opportunities for members to socialize and join together in various activities. Our members are men who choose to have their social lives enriched by the diverse activities in which our members engage. No single definition can describe Prime Timers, as they come from all walks of life. Prime Timers involve themselves in their community with volunteerism, politics, gay issues, arts, entertainment, and every other facet of healthy living. We are entrepreneurs, truck drivers, professionals, tradesmen, and office workers. Some Prime Timers work but others are retired. Some are married, some are in same-sex relationships, and some are single. Some are always on the go while others enjoy the quiet company of friends at home. But one thing is true of all Prime Timers: they enjoy the opportunities and friendships that develop with other Prime Timers both locally, provincially, nationally, and throughout the world. Prime Timers was founded in 1987 and has grown to more than 45 chapters located throughout North America, Australia, and Europe. The Edmonton Chapter was started in October, 1992. What Do We Do? Prime Timers meet on the second Sunday of every month (except July and August) at 3:00 PM at the Unitarian Church of Edmonton (10804 119th St.) for a social period, a short business meeting, a guest speaker or discussion panel, and afterwards an optional supper at a restaurant or, in the Spring and Fall, a wiener roast or burger BBQ in one of the city’s parks. In July and August, in lieu of meetings, we have potluck BBQs, usually at the homes or summer homes of members. Our annual Christmas party is always a popular event. It’s usually catered and we have a gift exchange. Popular extracurricular activities include theatre, video nights, pot-luck suppers at members’ homes, dining out at local restaurants and day trips. We poll our members for interests and encourage the formation of special interest groups. A monthly newsletter is distributed to our membership by email or hard copy at the next monthly meeting. Annual membership is $35 renewable in April of each year. This is prorated to $20 in October. Prospective members are welcome to attend up to two meetings and/or activities as guests before being asked to join.
Membership fees are $35.00 per person for the year April 1 to March 31.
