Who Are the Despite popular opinion, the joys of the gay lifestyle need not stop at age 40 or 60 or even 80. Tri-State Prime Timers is part of a worldwide organization that provides mature gay and bisexual men, and their younger adult friends, with opportunities to enjoy social, educational, and recreational activities in a supportive atmosphere. Tri-State Prime Timers has over 280 members, and an average of 125 attend our social gatherings on the second Sunday of each month. Those meetings are held at area restaurants or meeting facilities. They usually begin with a social hour at 3pm, an informational meeting at 5pm and dinner at 5:30pm. A meeting fee of $14 is collected from each attendee to help cover expenses. In addition to the monthly meetings, there are various smaller interest groups which usually have their own monthly or even weekly gathering. For example, there are groups devoted to gardening, gay literature, card playing, cooking, travel, and cinema. A dining-out group samples a different restaurant the evening of each fourth Thursday. A monthly newsletter helps keep us all in touch. Prime Timers come from all walks of life--every race and every social and economic level. They involve themselves in their community with volunteerism, politics, gay issues, arts, entertainment, and every other facet of healthy living. They are fathers and caregivers. They are businessmen and entrepreneurs. They are workers and they are retired. Some are always on the go, and some enjoy the quiet company of others at home. But one thing is true of all Prime Timers: they enjoy the opportunities and friendships that develop with other Prime Timers in the Tri-State area and throughout the world. Time with friends is always "prime time." Sponsorships Tri-State Prime Timers does not want its Membership or Meeting Fees to keep anyone from participating in our activities. If you cannot afford these fees, there are Sponsorships available to cover them for you. For information contact Membership Chairman, Tri-State Prime Timers, P.O. Box 34, Cincinnati OH 45201-0034. All inquiries are handled discreetly. Prime Timers Tri-State Prime Timers is a chapter of Prime Timers Worldwide, which was founded by a retired professor, Woodrow Baldwin. Because today's society, and especially gay culture, caters almost exclusively to youth, Woody saw a need for social and cultural organizations to aid and support the aging gay and bisexual man. In 1987, Woody began the first Prime Timers group, the Boston Chapter, by placing ads in local newspapers and soliciting his many friends. Since then, Prime Timers has grown to almost 50 chapters, located throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. There are Ohio chapters in Columbus and Cleveland as well as the Cincinnati area. While we are decidedly not a political organization, Prime Timers Worldwide is emerging as a leading force concerned with society as it effects the aging gay and bisexual population. The organization intends to take an increasing role in seeking answers to the needs and problems of maturing gay and bisexual men. Your membership in Tri-State Prime Timers makes you welcome at the meetings and activities of any affiliated Prime Timers chapter. Information about these chapters is available on the Prime Timers Worldwide website: Chapters by City |
